A popular bar with live music and no cover, Burt's has lots of kitschy decor, but not a lot of actual tikis. There does not appear to be any connection between this Burt's Tiki Lounge and the Burt's Tiki Lounge
FYI: Burt’s Tiki Lounge has been permanently closed since March 2018. Albuquerque doesn’t currently have another tiki bar, but for those visiting, The Copper Lounge has a tiki night every Thursday starting at 6pm.
This bar should be moved to the history section. I was able to get a Blue Hawaiian (very good) but the bar tender said he normally does not carry supplies for Tiki drinks. Bars have to change to satisfy their clientele - nice place but nothing Tiki except the sign outside.

These guys ought to be sued by the 'Tiki Bar Association of the World'. That's a thing, right? WORST bar ever and the ninth circle of hell of Tiki bars. The WORST BARTENDER EVER. NO FREAKIN COCKTAILS. Mediocre draft beer options. You can't just put up some fake ass thatch roof deco around your bar and call yourself Tiki and expect to get away with it.
And they opened up 45 minutes late.
Roof is leaking in at least six places and they've got buckets everywhere.
Seriously... I'm a HUGE fan of tiki, dive bars and joints and holes in the wall. Seriously. In a big way. I can always find the beauty in the ugly. This is NOT one of those those places. These folks owe everybody who have ever spent a penny here an apology.
And, OMG, the first band just started and, well, they just about killed about a hundred $ buzz. I like loud. I like hard and fast. Doesn't belong in a tiki bar AND it was horrible.
More of a dive bar than a tiki bar. There is island decor and maybe a few Tikis but the vibe isn't there. Did not feel like a Tiki bar and I didn't even want to try the drinks
We came here on May 30. They were advertising a big concert at 10 pm, both online and in front of the bar. We arrived at 7:30 pm, to find the lights off and the front entrance barred. They advertise opening at 4 pm. Disappointing! Next time we are in Albuquerque we will call first!
First thing you need to know about Burt's is that it is not located on Gold St. The correct address is 615 Central Ave NE. It's not far from Gold Street. The decor is great. It's dark inside but if you go on a sunny day, you can sit inside under the tiki Hut . This is a live music venue at night. Local bands are showcased. You won't hear any exotica here. The beer and liquor selection is good. I didn't order a tiki drink so I can't vouch for the quality. I most appreciate the fact that this place could obviously be just any old bar and music hall, but there is an obvious dedication to the theme. The tables and chairs are very Tiki and the walls are adorned by all types of nautical and tiki themed prints.
I didn't have high hopes for Burt's but we actually really liked it. We went on a Friday night and they were to open at 8:30pm. We showed up at 8:35. Had the whole bar to ourselves. It was tiki and kitchy. Not your classic chill tiki bar but more of a rocker lounge tiki bar. Drinks where served in actual tiki mugs and had fun looking at all the decor.
We didn't stay for the bands and had a good time. I could see this bar being a ring of hell later in the night but our experince was good. Drinks were fine though one bite of the pineapple had me put it aside and caution my husband against partaking in it.
So... this place is ok. I was a bit taken off guard when I walked in and they were playing "Country Music." Not that I mind... just a bit confused (then it is Albuquerque NM!).
Yes the place is very Kitschy and more surf-like then tiki-esque. And not many tikis at all. It is so confusing that a patron at the bar sitting next to me actually asked if they poured Mai-Tai's. Doh! I almost thought it was a gay bar... All guys huddled up in the booths and several butch women huddled up in opposite booths. I was a bit early and it straightened out before I left.
The waitress around the corner at "the Library bar and grill" said that Tuesdays were the best but that it was kind of "Hippy." When I pressed her on "hippy" she said they were a "young hippy crowd." My only thought is 'ouch' and that hippies suck. I can say that cause I once was one... in the early 70's (guess I just dated myself!).
