Grass Skirt Tiki Room opened in downtown Columbus in November 2012. The drink and food menus include both Polynesian yesteryear classics and more modern takes on tropical. Souvenir mugs are available. The decor includes echoes of Columbus' beloved Kahiki Supper Club
, with contributions from local tikiphile collectors and craftspeople. There are beachcomber lamps, pufferfish, large tikis, and a lava wall, and even some bamboo pieces that originated at the Kahiki.
On Sundays, Grass Skirt is closed to the public, but is available for private events.

With the Kahiki gone in 2000, this place opening was a tiki godsend. Helped me recover from my mourning and gave me hope. As far as tiki bars/restaurants go, it's really the only game in town, but it's also one hell of a place.

I have been to this place a couple of times and love it; good food, a good Mai Tai, and I'm quite fond of their rum and happiness punch. Sadly, on their Facebook page today (July 24, 2019) they announced that they will close on August 24 to focus on a new pop-up concept inside of Ace of Cups.
I visited while on a business trip in March 2018. It was not very crowded and the bar tender was friendly.
My drinks were good. I tried the Zombie and the Rhum Old Fashioned. Their souvenir mug is kinda lame. Just a skull mug with the logo. They have had a custom mug of the monkey outside in the patio, but were out of those.
I tried the Grass Skirt Geilled Cheese. It was good. Spam, Swiss and pineapple on Hawaiian bread. I recommend the edamame, the seasoning on it is quite tasty.
My wife and I went during HulaHop. It was a busy day, but bar wasn't busy when we went inside. Sat at table, waited 20 minutes, no service. Julie went to bar to ask for water ( it was hot), she was told to sit back down. Server finally came over, we asked for water, ordered drinks and food and asked to see mug selection. Got water. 10 minutes later server returned and realized she forgot about the drinks. My Mai-Tai was terrible, worst I ever had! Food came and was great. Asked again to see mugs for sale, only had one, not impressed with it so didn't bother. Had high hopes but won't be back.
Just discovered the place and I LOVE IT! I visit Columbus once a year for a gaming convention and I'm definitely making a pit stop here when I go. Fun atmosphere, strong drinks, and a great vibe.
The menu is limited but more than adequate for snacking. The few original drinks they have a pretty good and they do well with the classics. They are finally selling mugs as well with their name on them. They also let you buy tiki mugs without their logo, but in a unique shape (ex: shark). I miss the Kahiki, but the Grass Skirt is the best thing to come to Columbus in a long time when it comes to tiki

I've been here several times as I live in Ohio. It's the best thing that has come down the chute since the Kahiki. The decor is fantastic and I love that the local tikiphiles gathered together to help with the carved tikis, masks, lamps, and that fantastic chandelier.
The food is an inventive twist on polynesian and everything I've had is quite good. If I had to pick a complaint about the food, it'd be nice to see a few more veggies in the dishes. I'm not a vegetarian but everything but the salads are a bit carb heavy and I'm trying to stay at least a little healthy. That said, LOVE the crab rangoons. I'm not sure if I've had SPAM before eating here but, all horror stories aside, their grilled SPAM and Swiss sandwich is da bomb. Cocktails, when I partake, are top notch and very worth the price.
The staff is incredibly friendly and very good at what they do. Even the customers there tend to be very talkative and outgoing with eachother. This place is great and I definitely recommend a visit here.

Carmen Owens, the co-owner and manager of the Grass Skirt Tiki Room, and her staff do an amazing job of making customers happy in this classic style tiki Shangri-La.
The food is wonderful, the drinks are outstanding, the decor is great and the staff is just as good. You will not be disappointed!
The Grass Skirt decor and drink advice were all by members of the Kahiki Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Moai. Lights, tiki carvings, stone tiki face with glowing eyes and many drinks recipes were made by Lena Stiers, Jimmy Robinson, Don Drennan and Matt Thatcher respectively.
The Grass Skirt is an intimate, cozy, hip, mysterious tiki escape in the canyons of downtown Columbus. Although the outside is non-descript, the minute you step through the door you are instantly transported to an alternate exotica landscape...and isn't that what tiki bars are suppose to do?
The drink menu is one of the very best...and one of the most potent around! The Pineapple Grog is specifically unique and worth sampling. The zombie is one of the very best I have ever imbibed (and as a professional mixologist I have made and sampled many zombies!
The other thing that stood out more than the tikis was the genuine level of service from the Grass Skirt staff. Damn, they made me feel at home. And, venturing from Little Rock to Columbus, THAT is saying a lot! My visit to the grass Skirt was one of my very best tiki bar experiences. Maybe it was the trippy Tiki meets Mystery Science Theater decor, the potent grogs, or the Ohana. Whatever it was, the combined qualities of the Grass Skirt work together as well as the ingredients of that killer Zombie!!!
The owners promise more to come as pop-up bars.
