Humuhumu’s description

Rumpus Tiki Bar opened in downtown Budapest in December 2013. It boasts a drink menu a mile long, but it's full of familiar old tiki favorites, and appear to be faithfully executed, right down to the tiki mugs and garnish. There are two levels, one wrapping around as an upper mezzanine, so that there is a mix of dramatic high ceiling area and more intimate low ceiling spaces. There is no break between wall and ceiling, rather sloping arches, adding a cave-like feel. Black fish nets are pinned to the ceiling, studded with globe lights dressed up as float lamps. Reed, bamboo and thatch are used throughout, perhaps more sparingly than we see in American bars, but used to great effect. There are carved tikis, and framed posters of brightly colored tikis.

After 2 years got there again... Transylvania has left the building! No ghosts, no creepy dudes, no vampires, no more ghosts... And in my personal opinion I think it's good, one step closer to Trader Vic's style, cleaned up, no decoration mess... Cocktails are still first-class good, with max garnish and each made with special care, even though most of staff seems to be changed since last time (no doggy too)... Still probably one of the best in Europe. Oh, but music still suc...........not suitable for tikibar, not the very worst also, a bit carribean style... as I remember...

Bar is located in very popular area, in the center of Budapest. It is made up by tiki enthusiastic business lady, also member of Critiki.

She has done huge job, the place is big, fancy, and really focused on drinks, which are always accompanied with dry ice, full maximum garnish, additional fun elements like chest (up to triple-chest). This is the place where I first started to understand different cocktails, their characteristic, tastes and all that. Barmen are all friendly and talkative.

Place is always packed, so barmaid is selecting the seat for you to manage housing maximum number of clients. Madam herself was also there each evening together with her little doggy, seemed to be very nice person, but no English.

Decor of the place is maximum, lot of everything, but I don't get what's about ghosts and such halloween-style stuff... I guess Transilvania ain't far, anyway... it's her choice, maybe she just likes it that way.

The music ain't tiki, but not too bad, something caribbean type as I remember.

One of the very few tikibars in Europe that are really worth to visit.

Very well decorated, big place. The drinks were great, and staff was friendly (especially of you were respectful and nice, if you're a loud ass on a bender they might not be as nice.)
Only downside as many have mentioned was the dreadful Reggeton top 40 music blasting through the night.
Would definitely recommend a visit though.
