Taha'a Twisted Tiki opened in December 2013, in the Grove neighborhood of St. Louis. The decor is simple, and there is an outdoor patio. There is a menu of tropical drinks available, served in tiki mugs, and a Volcano Bowl.
Pretty stellar Zombie, but the vibe in this place was the weirdest thing I have ever encountered. There was a $5 cover charge, and then there was a some DJ's spinning house EDM chaos. The only escape was the back patio that was overrun with VERY drunk/stoned/high people.
it looks okay, and the bartenders are super nice. but the drinks are meh.
but it is also in st.louis, maybe they're super into drinking high fructose corn syrup?
I am a native Southern Californian who had a regular seat at Don The Beachcomber. I moved to St. Louis in 2013 and was very excited when Taha opened.
My wife and I went early, and the drinks were authentic, but the menu was a bit limited. They had a good start on building a good decor, but the music was 1990s pop - WHAT THE?
As time went on, my Tiki friends and I would stop in on occasion, and the music never improved. In 2014 or 5, I even gave the management a thumb drive with about 6 hours of Exotica, Surf, and Hapa Haole.
I don't know if they ever got a grip on the music or not, but I gave up in favor of home Cocktail Parties where we can get our Tiki and Les Baxter on.

We go to Tiki places all over North America....and beyond.
We were very much looking forward to visiting here as it was new to us since to last visit to St Louis, and we had inflated optimism, it turns out.
The website seemed heavily weighted towards food but did mention an extensive rum selection. We were surprised that NO FOOD was available after 9 PM! We had just finished work at 10:30 PM and were jonesin for some nibbles with our drinks..........walking into a nearly empty place.......nice bamboo elements, BUT. I wanted to sit somewhere out of the sight of TV screens.......too bad, as there are multiple ones...............showing fucking sports crap, which to me is the cardinal sin.......and add to that, filling the room with hip-hop music?! Why bother going to a so-called Tiki Bar, when you can experience this lowest common denominator crap anywhere?! C'mon people!!!
The drinks were OK, the service was pleasant, but I never want to go back to this place. Very Disappointing.

Taha'a Twisted Tiki has been in The Grove neighborhood of St. Louis for three years - and the place keeps getting better.
Missouri's only 'real' tiki bar - they have gone to the extra effort to get that Polynesian flair we love as tikifriks (yeah, I made that word up), but they still stay mainstream enough to keep the walk-in traffic happy.
They've added and upgraded the back patio section(s) and the food menu has something you'll like - while not 100% tiki-authentic - you won't go hungry.
I'm always impressed by the staff and the quality of the drinks - and I always love bringing someone new here because they always ask the same thing, "what is in this?!"
Make Taha'a your first stop on a trip to The Grove and you are going to have a good one!
