The Galley is Santa Monica's oldest bar and restaurant, and features decor from 1935's Mutiny On the Bounty (the production of that same movie also inspired the legendary Christian's Hut
in Newport Beach). The Galley is more nautical than tiki, but features a South Seas Bar with lots of bamboo and pufferfish lamps. Another highlight of The Galley is a large collection of World War II era propaganda posters.
The mai tai is your typical non-tiki/non-craft cocktail bar mai tai. It is just ok. As others have said, it is more nautical than tiki. However, the decor and the extensive food menu make this a fun place to visit, especially if you're traveling with non-tiki people. We came on a Friday night around 7pm and were able to get a booth right away without a reservation. The atmosphere is great, and the service was excellent.
Nautical/Tiki restaurant with steak and seafood. Lots of bamboo around the restaurant to give that Tiki feel. Only a few Tiki drinks on the menu but a very good Mai Tai. The bar area is crowded (probably due to a nightly Happy Hour) and has that Tiki Bar feel. Good food and great service.
Not a tiki bar per se, but apparently the oldest restaraunt in Santa Monica. My wife and I enjoyed sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender. The chili was good. Not many original drinks, or a mug though unfortunately.

The Galley is certainly a nautical more than tiki location but if you are in the area it is not to be missed. It does feel like a bit of history with fair food and drink.
