One of five Polynesian-themed Tropics motels once owned by Ken Kimes. The most elaborate of the chain was in Palm Springs, now called the Caliente Tropics Resort
The Tropics Motel is no longer. Now it is Tiki Lodge. The pool area is fenced off and the pool is now drained. The four tikis around the parking lot are now donning lighting on their chests/foreheads and solar powered batteries on their heads. Sad. When I Googled how to get there, it showed the place as being a 1-star hotel. No joke. It was just sad. Apparently it has also been a Rodeway Inn for a time. I'm guessing the prices must be fairly cheap still as there were a lot of cars in the parking lot.
I have stayed at this motel. Its rates are VERY cheap (we're talking $50 for a Friday night), but along with the cheap rates you get cigarette-burned drapes and bed sheets as well as dingy, cream tiled bathrooms. Not ideal for a tropical getaway, but it does the job if you are going through town and need a pillow to lay your head on. All of the quirks get to you? Go have yourself a VERY strong Blue Hawaiian at the TIKI COCKTAIL LOUNGE right in front. Guarantee you won't mind the dinginess of the place after a few of those! Also, one should know that this place has AMAZING carved TIKI statues every 50 feet or so of the motel. They are amazing. Check it out, it's a great little place with loads of potential.
